Vietnamese President Trần Đại Quang met Saturday with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the two agreed to increase political trust and promote comprehensive co-operation in line with the basic interests of the Vietnamese and Chinese people.

LIMA — Vietnamese President Trần Đại Quang met Saturday with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the two agreed to increase political trust and promote comprehensive co-operation in line with the basic interests of the Vietnamese and Chinese people.

They agreed on the need for frequent strategic exchanges, satisfactory resolution of disputes and promotion of co-operation for their peoples as well as for peace, stability and development in the region.

Quang expressed his wish for the two countries to maintain exchanges of high-ranking delegations, as well as boost practical co-operation between ministries.

He recommended Chinato co-ordinate with Việt Namto ensure balanced and sustainable bilateral trade, and improve the quality and effectiveness of Chinese-invested projects in Việt Nam.

President Xi agreed on the need to boost political ties and suggested the two countries make the best use of the steering committee for Việt Nam-China co-operation to further promote win-win co-operative ties in different fields, including infrastructure.

Meeting with Putin

At a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the two leaders expressed their pleasure at the rapid development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between their two countries.

They expressed their wish for Việt Nam and Russia to lay a solid foundation for bilateral relations in all fields, from economic, trade, investment to education and security-defence.

Quang recommended the two countries to maintain the exchange of delegations and meetings at all levels and closely co-ordinate in implementing the Việt Nam-Eurasia free trade agreement. 
He asked Russia to create favourable conditions for imports of  Vietnamese consumer commodities, seafood and aquatic products, and protect the rights and interests of Vietnamese living and working in Russia.

Putin affirmed that Russiatreasures the traditional friendship with Việt Namand was willing to boost bilateral relations, especially in such fields as trade, education-training, and science-technology.

Stressing the landmark of the Việt Nam-Eurasia free trade agreement in the bilateral relationship, Putin said good implementation of the agreement would open up opportunities to expand the Russia-Việt Nam comprehensive strategic partnership. 

Meeting with Bachelet

President Quang’s busy Saturday also included a meeting with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.

As the two countries are celebrating the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties (1971-2016), Quang recommended the two sides promote co-operation agreements to further facilitate the bilateral relationship.

The Vietnamese leader urged Chileto closely co-operate and effectively support the APEC Year 2017 in Việt Namand affirmed Việt Namendorsed Chile’s hosting of the APEC Year in 2019. 

For her part, President Bachelet affirmed Chile’s interestin further boosting the comprehensive partnership with Việt Nam. Chilesupports and is ready to closely co-ordinate for the success of the APEC Year Việt Nam 2017 and APEC Chile 2019, she added. 

Reception for Trudeau

In his reception for Canadian Prime Minister Justine Trudeau, President Quang hailed the importance of co-operation in education and training between the two countries and asked that Canadacreate more favourable conditions for Vietnamese to study and do research in Canada.

He said Việt Nam is the Southeast Asian country with the most students in Canada.

PM Trudeau expressed his willingness to boost economic and trade relationship with Việt Namand praised Việt Nam’s role in the region. He pledged to closely co-ordinate with Việt Namin regional and international forums and organisations.

On the same day, President Quang also received Papua New GuineaPrime Minister Peter O’Neill, who praised Việt Nam’s important socio-economic achievements as well as its increasing role in ASEAN, the region and the world. He affirmed that Papua New Guineawould continue to closely co-ordinate with Việt Namin the APEC Year Việt Nam 2017 and APEC Year Papua New Guinea 2018. 

The two sides agreed to make the relationship more practical by boosting the exchange of all-level delegations and formulating co-operation agreements in fields like trade, investment, agriculture, mining and fishery.

In the meeting with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, President Quang said the two countries need to increase the exchange of delegations and recommended Australiafacilitate Việt Namto export its agricultural products to the Australian market. 

President Quang also met with US President Barrack Obama, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Brunei King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, and others.
